Many well-known businesses started up in Acton, including T.Wall & Sons (Wall’s Sausage and Wall’s Ice cream, Wilkinson Sworn and also Waitrose (initially Waite, Rose and Taylor).
Today Acton High Street remains a busy shopping area, with many national retailers and some independent shops in the area. The area known as the “Mount” on Acton High Street (close to Morrison’s) hosts a market three times a week and the recently refurbished Swimming Pool is home to a number of competitive teams. The Park Club and Virgin Active gyms are just off Acton High Street.
